Kluane National Park – Part 2

The flightseeing tour was definitely the highlight of our visit to Kluane National Park (and the Yukon!). But we still managed to do a few other fun things.

We stayed at Mount Logan Ecolodge, in a yurt. It was nice and comfortable (except for the unfortunate lack of a toilet!). They had a really sweet and super friendly husky named Logan. Honestly, I think the dog was the highlight of our Yukon trip for the kids. The host also made us some croffles for breakfast, which were absolutely delicious. If you don’t know what a croffle is, stop what you're doing and Google it immediately. You're welcome.

We did a few hikes, one of which was quite difficult. It was called the King’s Throne: 10 km round trip, with a 550 m elevation gain. The first 2 km were flat, so really, that 550 m was crammed into just 3 km. That’s super steep. It sucked going up. And it doubly sucked going down. Surprisingly, not too much whining from Teddy! Although I did get the full plot of the Minecraft movie narrated to me in great detail. The kids got a treat when we made it back down. Bribes work wonders with them.

The next day, we did another hike—much to the kids’ dismay. This one was only 4 km round trip to a viewpoint, and it really was a great view. The trail was very dusty, and the kids invented a game called Dusty Kids, much to Mylene and I’s dismay. The game is simple: walk while dragging your feet to kick up as much dust as humanly possible and send it everywhere. Delightful.

On our last day in Kluane NP, while we were packing up to drive to Whitehorse, the car doors were open, and a random dog just jumped in like he was part of the crew. He was quite handsome, and clearly ready for adventure, but sadly, we couldn’t keep him.

One last thing: check out the burl on this tree. It looks exactly like a butt. Haha!
