The Cousins Have Landed! Let the Cruise Chaos Begin

The moment our kids had been counting down to with the intensity of Christmas morning finally happened: they reunited with their beloved cousins! Joey’s parents, Lee-Ann, Nico, Logan, and Elly-Rose joined us for an Alaskan cruise from Seward all the way down to Vancouver — basically, the coolest family road trip... minus the road.

Emma and Teddy with their cousins Logan and Rosie

This was our very first cruise, and not gonna lie — I was slightly panicking about Teddy’s legendary motion sickness. The kid can get woozy in a rocking chair. 😅 But surprisingly, aside from feeling the ship rock the first night, everyone was totally fine! No barf bags needed. Major win.

Cruising = All-Inclusive on Wheels... or Waves?

If you’ve never been on a cruise, imagine a floating resort where the scenery changes daily, the food never stops, and your kids basically forget you exist thanks to the kids’ club. Heaven.

Every day, we woke up somewhere new without once repacking our suitcases (which is maybe the greatest invention of all time?).

Photo may or may not be staged

Here’s a peek at a few of our stops so far:

🧊 Hubbard Glacier – This giant wall of ice left us speechless. The boat got crazy close, and we heard thunderous cracks as chunks of glacier slid into the sea. Nature is loud, dramatic, and way cooler than any Netflix show.

It may not look like it from the photo, but the Hubbard glacier that you see in this photo is 15 km wide and over 120m high.

🌧️ Juneau – Rainy. Shocking, I know (it rains over 220 days a year). Still, we managed to enjoy a soggy but charming stroll around town.

🚂 Skagway – Think Dawson City vibes but with paved roads. We hopped on the historic White Pass and Yukon Route train — it climbed steep cliffs with breathtaking views (and slightly clenched parental jaws). We made it into Canada and back, and the kids loved the adventure.

Glad we didn't go that way!

🌄 That evening, we were treated to one of the most jaw-dropping sunsets ever. Mountains, fjords, sky-on-fire colors — nature really showed off.

Onboard Shenanigans 🏃🏼‍♀️🍦

Let’s talk about cruise life: pools, hot tubs, climbing walls, the gym (some of us looked at it), the kids club (read quiet free time for parents), and the real MVP: The Windjammer — THE buffet of all buffets. Honestly, the amount of food available at all hours is both glorious and dangerous. At dinner, you can order multiple appetizers, mains, and desserts like you’re royalty. “The portions are small,” we kept saying... as we ordered our third dessert. 😂

So, cruise halftime report?

Smooth seas, happy bellies, full hearts. Let’s call it a success. Can’t wait for part two! 🛳️✨

FAQ Time

💬 Who lost a tooth in Whitehorse?

Teddy! And he lost another one in Alaska. The third is hanging on for dear life. So yes, he now speaks with a charming whistle and he looks like a hockey player in photos. 😄🦷

💬 Where are Nico and Ralph?

Honestly? Probably still at the Windjammer.

💬 Is this blog in French too?

Mais oui! Click the little FR icon at the top right for the French version.
