Whitehorse — A Surprising Hub
We ended up in Whitehorse three times during our Yukon trip — at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end. We spent five days there in total and kind of fell in love with the place.
It has everything a city needs — but somehow, everything just felt better than other cities. The city pool was a hit: lazy river, two-storey waterslide, and enough fun to completely wipe out our kids. We also found tons of great parks, walking/biking trails, little free libraries everywhere, and a surprising amount of public art tucked around town.

And let’s talk food: we weren’t expecting much, but Whitehorse proved us wrong. We had some seriously good Vietnamese and Japanese food. Who knew the Yukon could deliver on pho and sushi?
We also squeezed in a quick road trip to Carcross, stopped at the “world’s smallest desert” (basically a big sandy patch with an identity crisis), and enjoyed the beautiful mountain views along the way. A perfect day escape.

Wrapping Up the Yukon Chapter
We’ve now reached the end of our two-week Yukon adventure. We were incredibly lucky with the weather — warm and sunny, especially up north where it hit 25–27°C. The day after we left Dawson City, the road closed in both directions due to wildfires. People were literally stuck. We just missed it. Timing = nailed it.
A Few Lessons Learned:
🧺 Laundry Matters.
We went two full weeks without doing a single load. Rookie mistake. Turns out “camping laundry math” means running out of underwear fast and letting the kids become one with the dirt. By week two, they really were the “dusty kids.” 😂
👫 Teddy Needs People. Emma Does Not.
Emma is our quiet recharger; Teddy is... not. He’s high-energy and extroverted, and now that we’re traveling, his only “victim” is his sister. Let’s just say: Emma is a saint.

What’s Going Surprisingly Well:
✈️ Flights? All on time! Travel days have been smooth so far.
📚 Travel school? Casual but consistent — the kids journal every morning (shoutout to Rozen for their journal!) and we keep lessons short and sweet (~30 min a day).
🏕️ Pace of travel? So far so good. We’re taking it slow(ish), but next time we’re aiming to stay 4+ nights per spot — this whole “living out of a suitcase daily” won't work for us.
Yukon did not disappoint— a perfect mix of nature, comfort, and unexpected gems!
Oh, check out our first trial video. Shout out to Joe to put those shaky videos I have taken during our flight.
